Kyriakos Mitsotakis (born March 4, 1968 in Athens, Greece) is a Greek politician and the scion of one of the country’s most powerful political families. He was elected Prime Minister of Greece in July 2019 and leads the New Democracy (ND) party. From 1990 to 1993, his father, Konstantinos Mitsotakis, was Prime Minister of Greece. Dora Bakoyannis, his niece, was the mayor of Athens when the 2004 Olmpics were held there. Dora Bakoyannis, Mitsotakis’ sister, served as mayor of Athens during the 2004 Olympic Games, and her son, Costas Bakoyannis (Mitsotakis’ nephew), was elected mayor of Athens in 2019. Furthermore, Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ grandfather and great-grandfather served in the Greek parliament, and Eleuthérios Venizélos, the most famous Greek politician and statesman of the early twentieth century, was a great uncle.
