Percy Jackson Ares Actor Teases God Of War Role

Percy Jackson’s Adam Copeland takes to social media to tease fans about his role as Ares, the God of War, in the upcoming Disney+ adaptation.

Wrestler and actor Adam Copeland teases his role as Ares in Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians. The Percy Jackson television series is already shaping up to be an entertaining franchise for Disney. Based on the book series by Rick Riordan, the novels have garnered a large following due to its intricate storytelling and its well-informed take on classic Greek mythology. Percy Jackson‘s first attempt at an adaptation were two feature films that have been heavily criticized by critics, fans, and Riordan himself for straying too far from the source material and for poorly planning the franchise.

Among the things that the Percy Jackson Disney+ adaptation has already been getting praised for is its casting. The film version chose to age the characters up, which resulted in the story having an unrealistic depiction of teenagers and for alienating its younger audience who were the target demographic. The Percy Jackson movies also removed or altered several characters, making for a disjointed story. Among those lost in the film version was the character of Ares, who served as the primary antagonist in the first novel. The television adaption has rectified this by casting wrestler and actor Adam Copeland, better known as Edge, in the role.

Now taking to Twitter to announce his day on the set, Copeland is teasing fans about his involvement in Percy Jackson. Copeland has posted a photo of his on-set chair with his character’s name on it, backed by the ominous caption “God of War“. After Ares was left out of the first Pacy Jackson movie, this comes as a welcome preview of what’s to come.

Why Adam Copeland is Perfect For Ares

Copeland started his career in the WWE, under his stage name Edge, where he teamed up with wrestlers Christian Cage and Rey Mysterio. Around 2000, Copeland started to take on acting roles and diversified his skills. Some of his recognizable roles included playing Dwight Hendrickson in Haven, Atom-Smasher in The Flash and Kjetill Flatnose in Vikings. His name already joins the impressive growing cast of Percy Jackson with Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, Glynn Turman, Suzanne Cryer and Jessica Parker Kennedy also set to portray gods and monsters within the series.

Copeland’s large build and wrestling background are perfect for the role of Ares and once again shows that the Disney+ series is working to be a worthy adaptation of the books. Riordan’s acceptance of the casting and Percy Jackson actor Walker Scobell’s excitement over filming the famous Percy vs. Ares fight scene with Copeland are indications that the show is already headed in the right direction, and Copeland’s enthusiasm is also an indication that he is passionate about the material. While no release date is set, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2024.
