Ezekiel and Carol have a heart-to-heart talk about their diverging paths in a new clip from The Walking Dead season 11, episode 18.
Ezekiel and Carol realize they’re on different paths in a new clip from The Walking Dead season 11, episode 18. Melissa McBride’s Carol and Khary Payton’s Ezekiel became an item in The Walking Dead season 10. But there were many good reasons why the relationship simply didn’t work for fans of the long-running zombie series.
A lot more drama has obviously played out for both Ezekiel and Carol since their surprise romantic storyline emerged back in season 10. Most notably, Carol put herself on the line for Ezekiel by cozying up to Commonwealth bad guy Hornsby in order to help the former King get medical treatment for his tumor. Given a second chance at life by his surgery, Ezekiel decided to give back to humanity by helping out at a secret clinic established on behalf of the Commonwealth’s many have-nots.
But things have of course also become very hot for a lot of characters as the Commonwealth’s true dark face has been revealed throughout The Walking Dead season 11. This has left Carol and some others plotting to get out of Dodge before becoming even more entangled in Hornsby’s designs. But thanks to a new TWD season 11, episode 18 clip posted by The Walking Dead (via ComicBook.com), it now appears Ezekiel may not be joining Carol and the others in their exodus from the Commonwealth. The Future Of The Commonwealth
Fans of The Walking Dead have over the years gotten very used to the storyline in which the core group of survivors happens upon a new community where they think they can finally settle down and get back to living, only to discover that their safe haven isn’t so safe after all. But when the Commonwealth was fully introduced back in season 11A, it seemed perhaps the survivors had finally found true deliverance. And then the evil designs of Hornsby and his minions came to light, turning the Commonwealth into one more seeming false paradise.
But as The Walking Dead season 11 plays out, the show continues teasing the possibility that good could ultimately triumph over evil in the Commonwealth. Yes there is clear rot in the community’s system, embodied by the scheming Hornsby, but there are also good people trying to do the right thing. The show’s core group of survivors are now being divided into two camps: Those like Carol who wish to flee the situation, even if it means once again facing the horrors of the outside world; and those like Ezekiel who believe there’s a chance to hang on and make it work out this time.
It remains to be seen whether the Commonwealth’s soul can really be saved by Ezekiel, Eugene, Yumiko, Connie, Kelly and all the others who seem intent on fighting for their new home, or whether two-faced Horsnby will ultimately gain control and turn the place into a nightmare. It remains to be seen too whether some CRM-related twist isn’t in the offing for The Walking Dead as it speeds through its last run of episodes. Much has indeed been set up, and there aren’t many episodes left for it all to be resolved.
