New M. Night Shyamalan Movie Gets 2024 Release Date

Ahead of Knock at the Cabin’s release in February, Universal officially gives a new M. Night Shyamalan movie an April 2024 release date.

A new M. Night Shyamalan movie is coming to theaters in two years, as Universal gives the untitled thriller a 2024 release date. Thanks to his twisted directorial breakout movie in The Sixth Sense, expectations have always been high for what Shyamalan movie twist would come next. After originally managing to live up to these expectations mostly, his career became a bit shakier after a rough patch that included The Happening, The Last Airbender, and After Earth. The last few years have seen Shyamalan return to form a bit more, as films like Split and Old gave audiences reasons to be excited about the next M. Night Shyamalan movie.

On top of working on his Apple TV+ original show Servant, the director has been working closely with Universal Pictures in recent years to bring new movies to theaters. This included striking a deal with Universal to release two new movies by 2023. The first film from this deal became 2021’s Old, which was delayed heavily due to COVID-19. Shyamalan is currently finishing up his second feature from that deal, Knock at the Cabin, an adaptation of the apocalyptic horror book The Cabin at the End of the World. It stars Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Rupert Grint, and more and is hitting theaters in February.

As shared by Deadline, Universal Pictures has now announced the studio’s partnership with M. Night Shyamalan will continue. A new Shyamalan movie was officially added to the studio’s release calendar for April 5, 2024. No plot details were shared for the film, but Universal stakes a claim in a post-Easter weekend that currently has no other wide releases on the schedule. It is the sixth consecutive M. Night Shyamalan movie distributed by Universal. The new Shyamalan thriller movie hits theaters 14 months after Knock at the Cabin.

M. Night Shyamalan’s New Thriller Is A Good Sign For Knock At The Cabin

There might not be many details known about Shyamalan’s new movie, but it appears to be a good sign for Knock at the Cabin. Universal’s two-picture deal with Shyamalan came to an end with Knock at the Cabin, so they did not have to extend the partnership with another movie. That hopefully means that giving the new movie a release date is a sign of confidence from Universal in Knock at the Cabin‘s quality. There is also a chance that the new film will continue the filmmaker’s trend of adapting pre-existing material instead of coming up with original ideas.

If the first Knock at the Cabin trailer is any indication, Shyamalan could be on the verge of once again showing Hollywood and audiences what type of horror movies he can deliver. This would allow Shyamalan’s career renaissance to get back on track. After delivering well-received thrillers in The Visit and Split, his last two movies were not met with as positive a reception. Knock at the Cabin has the makings to turn things back around and make Shyamalan‘s new 2024 movie one of the most anticipated films of the year.
