She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s social media account teases Daredevil’s return by showing various cast members auditioning to play the villain Leap-Frog.
The official social media account for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law has released a video poking fun at how long the wait has been for Daredevil to appear on the show. The series, which premiered its first episode on Disney+ on August 18, is the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, introducing Bruce Banner’s cousin Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) who begins to develop Hulk powers of her own while attempting to balance that with her dating life and her career as an attorney representing superpowered individuals. The series also stars Josh Segarra and Ginger Gonzaga as her coworkers Pug Pugliese and Nikki Ramos and Jameela Jamil as Titania, a social media influencer turned villain.
It was announced even before She-Hulk premiered that Charlie Cox would be reprising the role of Daredevil in the series, fresh off his cameo in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, many fans became frustrated after a brief glimpse of his new gold mask appeared in a superhero costume designer’s office in episode 5, which featured She-Hulk getting her own superhero duds. However, two further episodes have premiered with neither hide nor hair of Daredevil, which has led some fans to express their frustration at the long wait. While She-Hulk has been full of cameos, including Tim Roth as Abomination, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Daredevil’s appearance has been a particularly slow one to percolate.
On their official Twitter account, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law shared a brand-new video teasing “the character you’ve all been waiting for.” That character, as revealed by the video, is… Leap-Frog. The parody video shows the She-Hulk cast’s various auditions to play the character, a villain with the power to jump incredibly high whose true identity is the inventor Vincent Patilio. The video features She-Hulk cast members Maslany, Ruffalo, and Gonzaga trying out for the role, with a special celebrity guest featured at the end.
This Leap-Frog video is operating on several levels, all of which show off the meta-humor that She-Hulk has become known for. The first level is the most obvious: Fans have been excited about the return of Daredevil, which was recently teased in an actual Leap-Frog clip from She-Hulk episode 8. However, the subtle second layer to the joke is the fact that Leap-Frog was originally introduced in the comics in Daredevil #25, meaning that it technically is a Daredevil tease. The wait is nearly over as Daredevil will appear alongside Leap-Frog in the upcoming eposode.
This not-quite-Daredevil reveal that is goofy yet requires a deep knowledge of the comics is par for the course with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Thanks to She-Hulk’s ability to directly address the audience (which is taken straight from the comics), she is able to comment on, and frequently poke fun at, the expectations of the people watching. This habit has clearly stretched outside the bounds of the show to include the social media campaign itself, which has frequently mimicked the comic styling of the series throughout its run.
