The final chapter of Netflix’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean arc has had its release date set, finishing the series out before year’s end.
Netflix has announced the release date for the final episodes of their adaptation of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, setting the finale for the franchise’s sixth part for December 1, 2022.
The release date may be a welcome surprise for fans, given how much time passed between the first and second batches of episodes. The first batch of episodes (1-12) for Stone Ocean debuted one year before that, on December 1, 2021, with the second batch of episodes (13-24) released on September 1st, 2022. The season will reportedly have 38 episodes total, putting it on par with the series’ last two parts, which each came in at 39 episodes. The remaining 14 episodes of Stone Ocean will be released in “binge” format, with all episodes available on the date rather than week-to-week, as has been the case for previous releases on Netflix. The series’ release internationally has been complicated by the fact that its Japanese episodes have been aired week-to-week, with the first episode not debuting until January 2022 in Japan.
Netflix announced the release date for the series’ final episodes via Twitter on October 7, 2022, providing little detail beyond the date and number of episodes. The episodes will adapt content from chapters 103-158 of the manga, which will include the arc that’s expected to be the most difficult to adapt, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” arc, wherein fictional characters are brought to life via Stand powers in a manner that isn’t copyright-friendly. How exactly animation studio David Productions plans to do this isn’t known, but prior to the announcement of Stone Ocean being animated, some fans would cite the arc as a reason why Jolyne’s story could never be adapted.
Where Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Can Go After Stone Ocean
While there’s still a seventh and eighth part of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure left to adapt, these stories are essentially a reboot, so Stone Ocean‘s finale will represent a major ending for Jojo regardless of whether the series continues being animated. News of any future adaptations has yet to be announced, but Stone Ocean seems to have performed well, so the door is very much still open for more bizarre adventures.
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has always been a popular manga in Japan, but the series’ anime adaptation is key to its explosion of popularity internationally. With Stone Ocean wrapping up sooner rather than later, it’s never been a better time to dive into Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and get in on this landmark series.
The final episodes of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean will be available December 1, 2022 on Netflix in all countries outside Japan.
