Dwayne Johnson Teases More Superhero Origins In Black Adam

Dwayne Johnson teases there will be other characters in Black Adam who will have their superhero origin stories told in the upcoming DCEU film.

Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson teases that other characters will have their origin stories explored in the upcoming DCEU movie. While Black Adam is best known for being Shazam’s main villain in the DC lore, the DCEU will take a different route with him by exploring Johnson’s character as an anti-hero. After years of being stuck in development hell, Black Adam is finally arriving in theaters this month, nearly a decade since Johnson was cast as the DC icon.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Black Adam explores Teth-Adam’s tragic origin story and how he goes from being a Kahndaq slave to one of the most powerful beings on the planet, having the same powers as Zachary Levi’s Shazam. The DCEU film will also introduce the Justice Society of America, the Golden Age team that predates the Justice League in the comics. While the lineup has looked different over the years, Black Adam’s Justice Society will consist of Hawkman, Atom Smasher, Cyclone, and Doctor Fate, who will come into conflict with Johnson’s titular character.

Even though Black Adam will be focusing on multiple DC characters, it appears there will be other superheroes besides the Justice Society. Johnson and the cast recently attended a Black Adam fan event (via Reddit) to promote the film, and the leading star ended up dropping a massive tease about other players that get their origin stories told too. According to Johnson, there are characters in the film “who aren’t superheroes yet,” sharing the following:

Pay attention to the ones who aren’t superheroes yet. Watch for those people too.

Other Superheroes That Could Appear In Black Adam

Aside from Black Adam himself and the Justice Society members, there is at least one more major DC Comics character in the film. Sarah Shahi is set to play Adrianna Tomaz, who is one of the Kahndaq resistance fighters. In the comics, Adrianna is better known as the superheroine Isis. And while his character’s last name hasn’t been confirmed yet, Bodhi Sabongui will play a character named Amon and was described as having a key role when he was cast back in April 2021. Black Adam’s Amon may be none other than Amon Tomaz, a.k.a. the DC version of Osiris, Isis’ brother. Based on the trailers, it seems this version of Amon – if he truly is Osiris – will be Adrianna’s son, rather than her sibling.

Whether they will actually become Isis and Osiris in Black Adam remains to be seen, because Johnson’s comment could merely mean the film will hint at their respective destinies as superheroes. It wouldn’t be shocking if there is a scene or two where it’s implied that one of them has powers in some capacity. Perhaps Isis and Osiris could be two of the characters that Johnson has Black Adam spinoff projects in mind for, which would allow their stories to continue after the first film. With only a few weeks left to go before Black Adam opens in theaters, it will soon be known what other superheroes pop up in the film and join the larger DCEU.
